THE MILBANK FOUNDATION

Milbank Foundation for Rehabilitation was created as a public charity in 1995 as part of an historic affiliation between the ICD-International Center for the Disabled and the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center Network.

The Foundation's primary mission is to realize Jeremiah Milbank's vision of integrating people with disabilities into all aspects of American life. Its current priorities include, but are not limited to:

• consumer-focused initiatives that enable people with disabilities to lead fulfilling, independent lives
• health-related policy research, especially at state-based research organizations
• improving the quality of, and individual control over, palliative care
• identifying and inspiring emerging leaders in the disability community

The charter of The Achelis Foundation states that its mission is "to aid and contribute to charitable, benevolent, educational and religious uses and purposes for the moral, ethical, physical, mental and intellectual well-being and progress of mankind; to aid and contribute to methods for the peaceful settlement of international differences; to aid and contribute to the furtherance of the objects and purposes of any charitable, benevolent, educational or religious institution or agency; and to establish and maintain charitable, benevolent and educational institutions and agencies."

Since its founding, The Achelis Foundation has made grants totaling over $41 million. Total assets of The Achelis Foundation were $37.6 million on December 31, 2010.
